Hurtworld for PC game reviews & Metacritic score: Hurtworld is a hardcore multiplayer survival FPS with a focus on deep survival progression that doesn't become trivial once you establish some basic needs.
HeySome of you may know me(Tweaker) from Bankroll Studios East #1. My group moved to a different server due to heavy server lag making it impossible to stream the game(New Server = Quantum Network). Anyway I wanted to do a review of the game at the 12hr played mark and give some feedback to the devs. Review:The game runs super great for the state it is in.
I have never had it crash until last night when I mined a ore node that was stuck in a placed wall. Hunting and traveling the map are really fun though its kinda the same old scenery as you walk around.
Though its Early Alpha so its expected that the map doesn't have a whole lot yet. The game isn't too grindy and resources are plentiful and easy to find. Though it can be a pain to gather the higher tier metals but I guess that is the point. Building is super easy though there is a limited amount of objects you can build. Nights are super dark and can cause some intense scenarios! So far not a lot of KOS players and most people seem pretty helpful so 'RPG' elements can be cool. Feedback:.
ATV Consumes ridiculous amounts of Gasoline. It also emptys the tank when the player exits/gets off of it. Not a whole lot of different building objects. (Stone short wall, Stone strut, Stone ramp, wood ramp, etc). Bor's have an audio loop bug when killed sometimes were their snarl or charging sound keeps playing and sounds like another Bor is coming right for you.
Shigi's can change direction on the dime which can cause you to miss a lot of arrow shots. May just be me being bad with the bow:P. Item boxes that get stuck in the air can't be picked up. Shigi's can run through placed objects (Walls, Doors, etc.) Not sure about Tokars or Bors.
Roofs should have closed sides so light does not bleed through. Walls that had a wall torch on it can not be removed even if the torch was removed. Walls can occasionally become invisible. You can shoot bullets and arrows through it but can not walk through it. Players can damage each other with projectiles in claims that both players are apart of.
Yet you can not do any Melee damage even when outside the claim. When killing a single Bor more come running at you from god knows how far away. (Not sure if its a feature or something) Same with Tokars.
Though it can make ridiculously dangerous situations. Servers lag. It could be from the resource recycling that goes on when there is a lot of players out gathering resources. (QuantumBrat thinks this is what is causing the large server lag). Wooden walls should be able to be chopped down with a high tier axe. Stone and Metal should need C4. Invisible Bors around ore nodes.
Was mining yesterday around a Iron node and started getting hit from an invisible Bor.That is my review/feedback guys!DEV - You guys did an awesome job so far, keep it up! You guys have something special here and it will go awesome places! Keep the open communication on development!
Also Dazzler your animations are super smooth and sexy js:DHope to see you all in-game someday!. I agree with the first 2 points you have there.Building roofs needs fixing. Can you elaborate? There are places on the map where there is absolutely no flint but there is anything else. You need flint for the arrows so this makes you not be able to get any food and die. (Especially in places where there is tritanium/monodium/ultranium) This is the most annoying thing in the game at the moment.I think that could be intended causing the player to come prepared to these areas.
Makes getting rare metals a lot harder and challenging.
So ive been seeing several posts about server admins being children and abusing admin powers. Or posts about hackers. So is this game worth it? I understand early access with the hacker issue that comes with any early game as people who clearly suck at games feel the need to cheat.
I have been playing H1Z1 since early release so i know the hacker issue. But is it truly that bad? Also does this game have dedicated servers? If no, why not? What is the point in making a game like this where the devs have no control over ban power? Leaving it in the hands of admins does not work mainly for the fact that an admin, 80% of the time is a child playing god with his magnifying glass on the ant hill. Yes you can avoid those servers but by time you realize its a waste server you're already out an hour of time and your moral to play lowers.
Does this game have dedicated servers or not?I would love to give this game a real shot but these issues are massive and game breaking. Hurtworld is definitely worth it. Here's why:Surivial PvP is something where most Early Access games are focused on, Hurtworld as well but does it very stable.
I remember ARK in the early days, game wasn't playable for high end systems on low settings due to frame drops, no issues at all with Hurtworld. This tells me that there's a solid base to be built upon, together as a community we should be able to make it happen. As the developers are actively working on this game. There's an amazing balance between PvE/PvP, yet, expect to play PvP just to defend your stack.Just realize that this game is in early access, there are a lot of things still to be figured out / worked on. All I can say is that I'm having a blast and I'm looking forward to what they can bring. The game does have dedicated servers and there are a couple of official gameserver retailers.
So I think this is one of the greatest Survival games I have ever played. You actually die in this game, several times, early game, midgame and endgame. The only problem now is the hackers.
Few days ago we had a hacker on our server teleporting into everyones bases and removing the totems (building item that marks your land) and stole everyones loot they have spend several days of farming and that kinda sucks. So I would recommend you buy this game when they put in a protection like VAC or EAC.
Otherwise you will just get frustrated with the game, otherwise the gameplay is awesome. So far we only had one obvious hacker on our server. This is on a server that's been full non-stop since Thursday morning. I wouldn't say the hacking issue is bad enough to avoid playing, but like any MP game, there will be hackers and they will fuck shit up once in a while. Good admins are the only cure for this.On to admins, you need to find a server with adult and responsible admins. Your 80% figure is a gross exaggeration.
I'd tell you to come on my server but we already have too many peeps:). My review based on 10 years of FPS and survival game experience in Rust, H1Z1, Day Z, Reign of Kings:Hurtworld is very polished in a sense that every aspect of the game from the UI, movement, opening doors, dropping and collecting loot, all work flawlessly. The client size is very small which is great for downloading and loading it is very fast. Graphics are pleasing and the weather effects add some great atmosphere.HOWEVER.as someone who loves PvP and raiding other players as part of survival games.this is where Hurtworld suffers in my opinion. You should be able to remove players who have added their names to your ownership stake (this allows them to respawn at your base).next, the infamy debuff is way too harsh a punishment for killing other players. You get a 15 minute debuff (which stacks) each time you get a kill on a player, even if it's in self defense! If you die with this debuff on, you drop ALL your gear, whereas normally you'd get to keep your weapons and farming tools and only drop resources and ammo, etc. They advertise these sweet looking vehicles in the trailer but the reality is you'll be damned lucky to own one of these unless you roll with a large group or were lucky to swipe one at the beginning of a wipe.
There's no way to even craft vehicle parts you have to just get lucky and find them in preset locations which have abysmal spawn rates. There's no pistol in the game so you go from a bow to a rifle which is silly. The game has virtually ZERO recoil on the assault rifles which make any noob unstoppable. The guns are way too accurate for how crap the bow is and no existence of a pistol to even the playing field early on. Currently you can craft metal doors and doorways with wood for the same cost as wooden ones.
No airdrops which were an amazing idea from Rust to create PvP battles and give smaller groups or solo players a chance at getting higher loot with risk/reward.The world feels shallow. There's a handful of high radiation zones with nothing in them and no reason to venture into them only to suffer damage over time. Odd selection of animals ranging from deers that aggro you to alien-like kangaroo things that spit toxic bile at you, to warthogs that do crazy damage and the end-game type creatures the Yeti which is the only challenging creature in PvE.Honestly, Hurtworld has a great foundation but the game is NOT ready for long-term enjoyment, especially if you like PvP as much as I do. I wish I waited before buying.
